MEET MELINDA...

1. What do you do? How did you get your start?

I work in wealth management. I was a business major in college and initially concentrated on marketing. On a whim I took an investments class and I loved it immediately. It was a topic I hadn't encountered before and I found it so interesting and challenging. Shortly thereafter I interned at a financial service company where I have risen from an intern, to an assistant, to an associate, and now a VP.

2. What do you use for motivation - why do you do what you do? How does what you do impact the community?

Money is such a personal, taboo topic and a lot of people try to self-educate with social media, googling, or hearsay. Not all information is good information and consequently, acting on that intel can cause damage. With my experience, I'm able to sort through the nice and provide sound opinions and advice to manage their financial well-being.

3. What makes you unapologetic?

Traditionally, women have an unrealistic expectation to be docile, obedient, and soft spoken. I believe in details, accuracy and service and these expectations can come off as demanding or “too much.” As a society, I don’t think we’re accommodating to these sentiments but I consider it to be doing business well.

4. How would you describe your style?

My style is minimal, simple, feminine, and always with a little flair. I will say that I don’t take big risks; nothing avant garde. In a professional setting, if I’m wearing a suit I always try to spice it up with a leopard print heel. In a personal setting, I could be wearing jeans and a t-shirt and I’ll add an unexpected accessory such a snake print clutch.

5. What is your favorite thing about BLANKWardrobe?

First- I’m absolutely ecstatic to see a woman-ran and women-owned brand. Each piece from BLANKWardrobe can be easily incorporated with my current wardrobe thanks to its versatility. Also it is backed by a powerhouse of information! It has the latest information about beauty, fitness, fashion-it certainly makes my life a lot easier.

6. How do you leverage your style in your personal and professional brand?

Working in such a traditional profession, my minimal style blends into the culture of finance. As a young, Asian woman in a traditionally male-dominated field, I try not to blend in too much. By adding little bits of “me” it allows me to stand out in a good way and feel confident in the environment and the business I conduct.

7. What do you have in your wardrobe that is a staple for you?

I have a few staples in my wardrobe but one of the most important is a pair of heels, specifically my black wedges. They’re such an easy way to complete an outfit. I gravitate towards wedges as they still provide height but also stability and can easily elevate a casual outfit.
